Es savukārt atcerējos stāstu no Ņujorkas. Aperture žurnāls publicēja šo Petersena bildi uz žurnāla vāka. Kad piedalījāmies vienā mākslas mesē, žurnāls bija līdzi, uzlikts mūsu stendā uz galda. Ja atceraties, man Ņujorkas sākuma posmā bija īsa čolka. Un cilvēki viens pēc otra prasīja: “Vai tā esat jūs uz žurnāla vāka?” Teicu, ka jā, tikai dvīņu māsa netika :)

Yesterday I went to Anders Petersen artist talk. He is calm and sweet. I will remember his images and some sounds – like the writing with the pencil of the lady who was sitting to my left or the clicks of the cameras. Really, where do the people put the images taken from projection or the portraits of an artist while talking? Also, I caught myself stopping at his phrase: “Take your time to make wrong decisions”.

I in return, I remember a story from New York. Aperture had published one issue of the magazine with this image on the cover. Me with a colleague, we were working at one fair and were having the magazine at the stand. I was having this small bangs at the time and people were constantly asking if it was me on the cover. I replied yes and that my twin sister couldn’t make it. :)

Today I want to show the “Retail” series of American photographer Brian Ulrich who I had pleasure to meet in New York. Have a week end outside the shopping malls!

I’ve already told you about my friend Lote. She has a wonderful imagination and an ability to write down these imaginary stories into a scenario. One of them – ForgetMeNots – has found a creative team and the first announcment of the film – musical – a teaser – was shot during the last week end in Ligatne. ForgetMeNots is a story about a women village, about a strange curse, about a deficiency…

I read a beautiful saying today: “The line you draw with your actions today creates your destiny tomorrow. So be sure that your pen is drawing a work of art.”

So I was wondering what kind of piece of art I am or will be tomorrow. From visually existing ones, the first one to pop in my mind was Mark Rothko’s No. 3/No. 13 (Magenta, Black, Green on Orange), 1949.

What kind of work of art are you?

In the last few days coconut macaroons and beet – chocolate cake have overtaken the walk of fame of gingerbread cookies . The video recipe of beet cake is so appetizing that you can not go without it. In my version, I add a bit more of beet and I glaze it with chocolate and decorate with walnuts. May they be tasty for you too!

One of the reasons why I am demanding about the food might be the fact that I am vegetarian, thus I am used to cook a lot at home with my spices, experiments and knowing what’s in the food. The news there is a new vegetarian restaurant (made in an apartment) – Apartment nr.19 – made my taste-buds to liven up and we went to check it out before yesterday. I won’t throw the epithets away – good things deserve simple words – everything was nice and tasty. My friends attacked their food, so I managed to take a photo only of mine – Christmas risotto with spinach – cashew sauce. I liked a lot that the restaurant has three rooms, thus you can hide in the remote room if having a more intimate dinner or join in at the big table in the middle room even with people you didn’t know before. The prices are friendly too. And the host is a great receiver!

Tikmēr es savās mājās, kā teica māsa, esmu atvērusi “beikeriju”, jo tagad man ir divas specialitātes, kuras visi grib garšot – kokosriekstu cepumiņi un biešu – šokolādes kūka. Priekā, gardēži!

In the meanwhile, as my sister said, I have opened my home bakery because I have two specialities now that everyone wants to taste – coconut macaroons and beet – chocolate cake. Cheers, gourmands!

What can you do in a Monday like this when it can be the best characterized by a word slush or if you translate directly from Latvian “wet rubbish”? Well, you can, for example, put on your rain boots, a hat (and a hood even better) and go on a picnic! Take a sandwich with you, for instance, the one your sister has left at home and a song to hum. I went :)
