The Little Bee in America, The Other Hand in the UK is the title of a book I’ve just enthusiastically read and that I suggest wholeheartedly. The story is about a Nigerian girl who flees her country, after her family has been killed during the oil wars, to the UK. She has been kept in the detention center for two years and then let out without papers. She goes to see the only people she knows in England – Sarah and Andrew whom she met in Nigeria. The other story thus is about Sarah – a woman who cut off her finger to save the girl’s life. I won’t tell more if one is interested to read the whole story. It’s a moving and harsh story, a wonderful language, beautiful and imaginative descriptions.

Today I met the great photographer (also sculptor and painter) William Christenberry who shook my hand to say hello and gave me a hug to say good-bye, even though just a moment before had added that the hugging should be kept for the next time. A nice note for my Wednesday!
