Kultūras rudens/The Cultural Fall

18 Nov

Man ir brīnišķīgs rudens.

I have a wonderful fall. Not only because the weather is unbelievably warm and sunny and even if  my future is still quite unknown,  I am absolutely positive in my heart and mind. I’m also very pleased to have the chance to enjoy so much more of New York’s culture events than in previous seasons. Yesterday I was invited to a play. Kamerspiele of Munich (the same theater where Latvian director Alvis Hermanis produced Ruf der Wildnis) was showing The Marriage of Maria Brown, after Fasbinder’s movie. I liked the use of videos and slides but I couldn’t explain why there were men playing women roles, Maria seemed too sweet for her image and the scenography was poor too. I guess I shouldn’t compare it to the film but it’s difficult not to at all, once seen. It was wonderful to go to the theater in New York but it also made me miss Latvian JRT (The New Theater of Riga) – when are you coming to New york? You have spoiled me and my standards are now high!
